What is Peer 2 Peer and why it's Important

This Wiki is Designed to Inform you about Peer to Peer File Sharing

Well….you all use peer 2 peer file sharing already.

Peer-to-Peer – is a type of network protocol which allows a group of computers users using the same networking programs to connect to each other and then directly accessing the files from each others hard drives.

Examples of P2P

Limwire, napster, Kazaa are examples of peer-to-peer software.

What can it be used for

Peer 2 Peer can be used for content file sharing between friends, family and work associates.

This may including the sharing of;

Audio and video files (Music sharing - Limewire, Frostwire….ect..)

Data (Word, Excel and Access doucuments sent to work associates)

All other digital and non-digital formats being sent to other's can be classed as Peer 2 Peer

Also useful for 'Real Time' data such as Telephony traffic. (Voice over IP)

Within a peer 2 peer network the clients are able to provide computing power by the means of bandwidth and storage space.

Transfer of data is done directly to files from one computer to another. It does this without using a main server.

"As more nodes are added to the system the demand from the network increases however the capacity is also increased."

"When using the software they can store the files in a specific folder on their computers and then connect the folder to the internet through the software. Files are available for online users who have installed the same software as you." ( http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/itsc/about/p2p-risk.html)

This is not the cases with a client server with fixed servers because adding clients to such networks will result in slower data transfers for all users of that network." (source)
